Happy Holiday's!!!
Hello bonded friends.
I spoke to a friend today that read The Arena. Like most friends who aim to give feedback to a new artist, he gave the book strong praise. Unlike most, he had reasons why he enjoyed and praised The Arena. We had a real discussion on the writing, the story, and his thoughts about how Taare developed as a character. It was enlightening and wonderful to have that conversation. As a new author I am still regularly waiting for that harsh critique, knowing that it's on the way and there is nothing I can do but accept whatever arrives. Many have felt it was a good read and a fun book, and I am happy they enjoyed it.
Last month I hosted my first book signing table. We sold nearly twenty books and raised over $100 for the animal shelter here in town. It was exhilarating despite the slow parts of the event. I spoke with many people who were buying a novel for family member’s Christmas presents. Others jumped at the chance to assist the animal shelter and receive a free gift of a signed book for their donations. I definitely plan to do more events to sponsor animal shelters. I have another bundle of books arriving soon, so the next charity event will likely be in Watertown South Dakota, supporting the Glacial Lakes Humane Society. I am also going to start adding some of my short stories that I have written over the last couple years. I was writing for fun with these, testing out writing styles and techniques, and pushing my creativity. A bit of warning on those; I have not edited them or had anyone else edit them. They may seem disconnected or poorly written, and in truth, they should be that way. I plan to rework some, or put them into a book of shorts, but until then, I will leave them as written. I am also keeping the flow of the second book, and it is making great progress. I am finding out, again, that keeping the motivation to write a full novel is daunting and takes a real presence of mind to keep it going. I am happy that the continuing stories of Taare is still building and will be done in months instead of years.
Thank you to everyone supporting me. I appreciate you more than you may know.
