For 200 years the Wizards have been at the height of their power, giving up comfortable anonymity to manage the world and its affairs. To make a better world, they had to enslave humankind. Taare, a dragon training slave, finds himself fighting for his life in magical games, fashioned after the ancient Roman gladiators. He, and the wizards, are about to find out just how far a man can go when he has nothing left.
